Special Sample Sticks for Cryostats

In response to scientists needs, the cryogenics team has developed special sample sticks that are available from a pool on request. Sufficient advance notice to sane(at)ill.fr is required for their reservation and preparation.

  • The sticks 210ILEF49, 257ILEF49, 266ILEF09 and 156ILEF49 allow to apply an electric field in a vacuum space once the sample has been cooled down with exchange gas. The maximum applied voltage is 20 kV. ILL provides a DC power supply but it is possible to bring and use an AC generator.
  • The Goniosticks 225ILGO49, 259ILGO49, 260ILGO49 and 261ILGO49 provide single crystal alignment inside Ø49 mm (or more) Orange cryostats and some cryomagnets. The tilt is controlled remotely from the top and the maximum inclination is of ±6°. The temperature of the sample is measured with a thermometers located near the sample in the exchange gas.
  • The stick 240ILUP12 allows to apply a low vertical force onto the sample inside a Ø49 mm (or more) Orange cryostat. The force, between 0 and 120 N, is controlled remotely from the top of the stick with a micrometer screw. It is generally used for detwinning crystals.
