DALI

Extending the capacity and capability for neutron macromolecular crystallography

DALI - A QUASI-LAUE DIFFRACTOMETER FOR BIOLOGICAL MACROMOLECULES

DALI is the second quasi-Laue diffractometer at ILL (with LADI-III) used for single-crystal neutron diffraction studies of biological macromolecules at high resolution (1.5 - 2.5Å). DALI allows visualization of key hydrogen or deuterium atoms within biological macromolecules, identifying the protonation states of charged residues, the exact hydrogen-bond networks of bound small molecules or inhibitors, and the orientation of water molecules.

Data collection is feasible for samples with unit-cell edges ranging from 50 to ~150 Å using crystal volumes from ~0.05 to 0.5mm3, respectively
