IN8
Thermal neutron three-axis spectrometer
Simulated experiment
The animation shows the typical measuring strategy of a three axis spectrometer like IN8.
- The monochromator selects a beam of neutrons in a narrow energy band.
- The analyser is positioned to select a scattering direction (related to the momentum transfer, Q)
- The energy of the neutrons which pass through the analyzer is determined by varying the angle of Bragg reflection from the analyzer
- Each configuration of the spectrometer corresponds to a well-defined point in the (Q,ω) space.
