Disordered Materials Diffractometer
Simulated experiment
- The polychromatic neutron beam from the hot neutron beam tube H8 is diffracted by the monochromator, where a single wavelength is selected.
- The diffracted beam passes through a filter to remove the harmonics and then through slits to limit its aperture.
- This quasi-monochromatic beam is scattered by the sample: usually a gas, a liquid, an amorphous or a powdered material.
- The intensity of the scattered neutrons is measured by an array of nine microstrip detectors (64-cell, 3He).
