ILL's Scientific Council and Subcommittees meetings

The ILL Scientific Council met on site on 27-28 March. On the two previous days, 25-26 March, the Subcommittees of the scientific council met to analyse and select the proposals for beam time in 2025.

The Scientific Council assesses the scientific output of the Institute and advises the Directors on both scientific priorities and development of the instruments and technical infrastructure in order to best meet the needs of the user research programme. At this meeting, the agenda featured the increased production of radioisotopes at ILL, the scientific case for a new thermal imaging instrument, and the progress in developing our Science Strategy.

The ILL Scientific Council is composed of 15 members representing the Associate Members and the Scientific Members of ILL and meets twice a year. The chairs of the subcommittees are invited to join the meetings. The Scientific Council reports to the Steering Committee, which has the ultimate responsibility for determining operational and investment strategies for the Institute.

A talk on “Depth resolved vector magnetometry on D17 with Endurance upgrades” was given by Thomas Saerbeck on the Chadwick amphitheatre on 28 March and can be found in: https://www.ill.eu/news-and-events/events-calendar/meetings/the-scientific-council/scientific-council-public-talks

On the two previous days, 25-26 March, the Subcommittees of the Scientific Council met at ILL to analyse and select the proposals for beam time in 2025. Subcommittee members are specialists in the relevant areas of each college. Their role is to evaluate the proposals received based on scientific merit and prioritise and allocate beam time to accepted proposals. The main proposers of the accepted proposals will be informed in due course of the results of the evaluation process.
