D22 with 17T

Ted's Magnet (17T)

Stray Magnetic Field and Siting Issues on D22

We present below the magnetic forces measured on D22 with the 17T horizontal field magnet of Ted Forgan and Elizabeth Blackburn. The first measurements performed with the Huber goniometer reveal a very strong force that is essentially vertical. Indeed, the Huber goniometer is magnetic and the force is mostly vertical.

After replacing the Huber goniometer with the old goniometer, the vertical component of the force is divided by a factor 5.5 and we can see the low horizontal force of a few daN. The use of this 17T magnet is therefore permitted up to nominal field with that goniometer.
