BRISP is a new concept thermal neutron Brillouin scattering spectrometer which exploits the time-of-flight technique and is optimized to operate at small scattering angles with good energy resolution.

A general view
BRISP is an inelastic neutron scattering spectrometer optimized for small-angle experiments (neutron BRIllouin SPectroscopy) at thermal energies.
This time-of-flight instrument is aimed at providing the scientific community with a new and efficient tool for advanced investigations of the low-Q dynamics of magnetic systems and disordered matter.
The monochromator
BRISP offers the choice between 3 large monochromators made of a set of carefully aligned single crystals of graphite or copper.
The sample chamber
The sample can be placed either in sample chamber (opposite) under vacuum and at low temperature or in a furnace.
The detector
The position sensitive neutron detector (PSD) is a set of 3He tubes. The assembly can be moved inside the detector tank to adjust the instrument resolution.
