Liquid Pressure Cell 22PL05AO4

This 50 MPa (500 bar) cell was designed within the framework of NMI3-II. The cell is essentially made from hardened CuBe alloy and Sapphire windows. It is optimised for Neutron Spin-Echo spectrometers and SANS and features an extremely low background. The sample thickness varies between 2 and 4 mm and the temperature is controlled with a thermostatic bath (±10 mK stability).

The cell was tested successfully on IN15 in March 2017 (photo below). The transmission is 6Å cell 87% at 6 Å, 79% at 10 Å and 69% at 16 Å. Several variations of this cell have been produced for NSE and SANS:

  • 50 MPa for Spin-Echo providing Ø30 mm incident beam access (this cell)
  • 300 MPa for SANS providing Ø10 mm incident beam access (2 copies, see cell 21PL30AO2)
  • 500 MPa for SANS (2 copies, see cell 11PL50AO2)
