A polymer under pressure

The reduced vibrational density of states [g(E)/E2] of PIB at different pressuresGreen: atmospheric pressure. Light blue, deep blue, red: 0.4, 0.8 and 1.4 GPa. Insert: typical clamps used for the experiment.

A polymer under pressure

The experiment was performed on the upgraded IN5 multi-chopper spectrometer using a dilution fridge (T = 45mK) and a cryomagnet with magnetic fields up to 1 Tesla. It allowed us to completely elucidate the mechanism leading to this zero-field split ground state.
