PANTHER Thermal neutron time-of-flight spectrometer

PANTHER - Thermal neutron time-of-flight spectrometer

Panther - Thermal neutron time-of-flight spectrometer

Panther is a high-flux medium-resolution thermal-neutron direct-geometry time-of-flight spectrometer optimized for energy transfers up to 150 meV. It is designed for inelastic neutron-scattering measurements of excitations in condensed matter using single crystals, polycrystalline samples, glasses and liquids. It is currently working with unpolarized neutrons.

Applications

  • Crystal field excitations.
  • Spin-waves in magnetically ordered materials.
  • Magnetic excitations in quantum and frustrated magnets.
  • Lattice dynamics : phonon dispersion and phonon density of states.
  • Vibrational spectroscopy in the lower energy range.
  • Quantum rotations and translations of small molecules in confinements.
