The search for Dark Matter

The axion, a possible composer of dark matter

Dark matter is one of the greatest mysteries of modern science. It makes up 24% of our universe. That’s 5 times more than visible matter, such as stars, planets, gas and dust. And yet we still don’t know what it’s made of.
In the last few years, scientists have been doing some real detective work. Thanks to the ultra-cold neutrons, ILL researchers have set out to investigate one particle that might make up part of dark matter: the AXION.
