How it works

Principle of Laue diffractionThe Laue diagram is correlated to the crystal symmetry and orientation. Here we show the diffraction by a cubic single crystal and then by an hexagonal single crystal.

Principle of neutron Laue diffraction

The Laue diffraction technique is very simple. If placed in a white neutron beam a crystal produces a diffraction pattern which is characteristic of both its lattice symmetry and orientation. This makes it very easy to orient samples and also to assess their quality. If the intensity of diffracted spots measured, this can be used for structure determination.
