This annual meeting is organised by the French Neutron Scattering Society (SFN), created to promote neutronics within the scientific community and to strengthen the French neutron community. ILL scientists Lucile Mangin-Thro and Peter Fouquet were part of the 2024 organising committee.
The JDN comprised scientific sessions on condensed matter, magnetism, soft matter, biology, and instrumentation. A novelty was a session on "neutrons beyond scattering”, with showcased on cancer treatment, physics beyond the standard model and quantum physics. During the meeting, the winner of the 2024 SFN PhD award was announced.
At the session dedicated to the latest news from the different neutron facilities, the ILL was represented by its Science Director Jacques Jestin. The conference ended with a round table discussion on the future of neutron scattering in France.
In addition, the European Neutron Scattering association (ENSA) announced in Porquerolles that the 2027 European Conference on Neutron Scattering (ECNS2027) will be held in Grenoble. With the celebration of 60 years of the ILL and 70 years of first neutrons in Grenoble, 2027 will be a very special year to invite the neutron community to Grenoble. The local organising committee includes the ILL, UGA and several CEA and CNRS laboratories.
