After a welcome lunch, the visitors attended a series of short presentations by German ILL scientists Anna Grundel, Tobias Jenke and Katrin Schmalzl. The presentations introduced the Institute and its research on a wide variety of diverse topics ranging from biology to nuclear and particle physics, from material science to radioisotope production for medicine. This was followed by a visit to the ILL facilities, providing a chance to showcase our unique, state-of-the-art suite of over 40 instruments - which the recently completed Endurance modernisation programme has brought into its best shape ever. German ILL instrument scientists Lukas Helfen, Tilo Seydel and Markus Appel also took part in the visit.
Germany, together with France and the UK, is a founding country and Associate of the ILL. The world's leading research centre in neutron science and technology, the ILL is governed by its Associates from the three founding countries. Germany is represented on the ILL Steering Committee by the Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Today, 10 other countries are ILL Scientific Members, allowing their scientific communities to benefit from ILL's cutting-edge facilities. Find more information here.
