The first Anton Oed Prize awarded to Rui de Oliveira, CERN

The inaugural Oed prize has been awarded to Rui de Oliveira of CERN for his major contribution in the development of micropattern gas detectors.

The prize aims to promote an innovative spirit and the ability to solve technical challenges, which were at the origin of the micro-strip gas chamber invented by Anton Oed in the late 1980s.
Anton Oed passed away on 30 September 2018; he was a passionate inventor and remains a source of inspiration for many of us today. The ILL would therefore like to honour his memory, whilst encouraging the development of detector techniques for scientific applications. The Anton Oed Prize, of a lump sum of 1000 €, was awarded on Thursday 9 May 2019 at the MPGD conference in La Rochelle.
