Green solvents and their application for plant extraction and separation processes

In the first part of my talk, I will give a critical review on green solvent systems, including hydrotropes, Ionic Liquids, Deep Eutectic Solvents, and Surfactant‐free Microemulsions (SFME). I will present different classical and less classical systems and discuss the criteria for their usability as well as some practical examples [1].
In the second part of my talk, I will focus on plant extraction and separation processes and here, in particular, on the extraction of lipids. As an example, a green Bligh and Dyer alternative will be discussed [2]. Based on another collaboration with the group GREEN run by Farid Chemat in Avignon, I will show how choline salts can be used to simplify the extraction/separation process of fatty acids [3].
