Norman Ramsey began collaborating with the ILL in 1975 and performed several famous experiments on guide H18, then on the Ultra Cold Neutron (UCN) facility PN5 (reactor Level C, bealm tube IH3), then on PF2 Level D). Today, the areas of research and techniques he pioneered are still active and new instruments are trying to go even further.
Ramsey's PhD students and collaborators at the time have excellent memories of this period. Three of them share here with us what they remember of the experiments with Ramsey at the ILL, the spirit of the times and the man.
