Safety review

These are performed every ten years in all French nuclear installations.

They involve a complete review of the safety studies on certain topics (selected by the operator and approved by the ASN) in the light changes in legislation and developments in know-how. The results of the review may require the operator to undertake major work to improve the safety of the installation.

SCC

The Science and College Commitee provides an interface between scientists and students on the one hand.

SCI

The Instrument Control Service provides electronic and software support to the ILL's 40 official instruments. This support extends to testing the Projects and Techniques Division's;neutron optics, detector, sample environment and mechanical equipment. The first priority within the SCI is to support the instruments and ensure optimum use of beamtime. In practical terms, this means preventive maintenance and replacement of electronics and computers, management of spare parts, follow-up of the technical evolution of hardware and software.

SDN

Neutron Detector Service

SMSS

The Soft Matter Science and Support (SMSS) group is located in the Science Building and has the responsibility for running the Chemistry Laboratories, on the first floor, and the Partnership for Soft Condensed Matter (PSCM) initiative on the second floor. It operates in close collaboration with the LSS group. Besides the laboratory responsibles it hosts a large number of PhD students and post-docs either with ILL or external grant fundings working on soft matter science using neutron scattering. It has also the responsibility for setting up a deuterated lipid extraction facility currently funded by the SINE2020 grant and in collaboration with the D-Lab.
