College 9
Structure and dynamics of soft-condensed matter
College Secretary: Orsolya CZAKKEL
Focus Group (reflectometry) College Secretary : Javier CARRASCOSA TEJEDOR
College 9 focuses on the structure and dynamics of soft condensed matter. While materials such as polymers, colloids, and amphiphiles are ubiquitous in daily life, their structures and behavior at the microscopic level remain subjects of extensive research. Because neutrons are scattered by atomic nuclei, they are highly sensitive to different isotopes, which provides a significant scattering contrast between hydrogen and deuterium. Modern chemistry enables the tailor-made synthesis of partially or fully deuterated soft matter molecules. By using an appropriate hydrogenated or deuterated solvent, or a mixture of both, contrast variation has proven to be a powerful method for elucidating the nanoscale structures of soft matter and observing subtle mechanisms within highly complex substances.
The main instruments used for College 9 proposals are:
- Reflectometers: D17, FIGARO, SUPERADAM
- Small momentum transfer diffractometer: D16
- SANS spectrometers: D11, D22
- Diffractometers: D19, D20
- Time-of-flight spectrometers: IN5, SHARP
- Diffuse scattering polarization analysis spectrometer: D7
- High-Resolution Backscattering Spectrometers: IN13, IN16
- Spin-Echo Spectrometers: IN15, WASP
If you want to come to the ILL and give a seminar, please contact the college secretary.
Travel and expenses for your stay may be reimbursed. Do not hesitate to contact her if you are coming for an experiment in Grenoble (ILL, ESRF, EMBL, CEA, CNRS, ...).
