MARMOT in full swing

2025 operations: highlights
The ILL concluded 2025 operations at the end of October. In total, more than 1800 scientists came on site to perform close to 1400 experiments. The High-Flux Reactor will restart in late March 2026 for a year with 3 operating cycles in the programme.

A new ('Super') reflectometer for Supermirror characterisation at the ILL
T3, the new polarised cold neutron reflectometer developed by the Neutron Optics Service at the ILL, in strict collaboration with the Design and Calculations Service, is now fully operational. Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone involved in making this project a success!

The ILL officially enters a new era
The completion of the ILL Endurance upgrade programme was officially celebrated yesterday, 27 November 2024, in the presence of representatives of the ILL Associate Countries – France, Germany and the United Kingdom – and of several ILL Scientific Member Countries, European neutron facilities and key partner institutions.

Nine people from the ILL staff travelled to the ESS in Lund last week to meet with the local team in charge of the CSPEC project.

Update on SHARPER
The SHARPER instrument at the ILL came online during the second 2024 reactor cycle, which run for 16 May to 9 June. SHARPER is a time-focusing time-of-flight spectrometer designed for quasi-elastic and inelastic scattering built and operated at the ILL by the Léon Brillouin Laboratory (Saclay, France) as a CRG (Collaborating Research Group) instrument.
