The 200th reactor cycle has just started at the ILL
09 Jun 2026After a short break following the first cycle of 2026, neutrons are back at the ILL for a special milestone: the start of the 200th reactor cycle.
With the resumption of regular reactor operations, the ILL will now deliver three reactor cycles per year, corresponding to around 170 days of neutron beam time across its full suite of instruments. Each cycle is made possible thanks to the dedicated commitment of the reactor teams, instrument scientists and support staff, who ensure the smooth running of the facility and assist users during their time at the ILL.
During the first cycle of 2026, the ILL welcomed 745 individual users from 36 countries who conducted some 513 experiments across its instruments.
With the 200th cycle now underway, the ILL continues to support an international scientific community working hard to tackle the major challenges of today in health, energy, the environment, fundamental physics, and quantum technologies.
