Typical patterns with the classical detector

Here the sample is a crystallized dilute lamellar phase made of two surfactants with opposite charges. This pattern combines the results for three successive detector positions.

Typical patterns with the classical detector

Until 2009, the neutron detector of D16 was a ³He bidimensionnal detector with an area of 256 x 256 mm², a resolution (pixel size) of 2 x 2 mm² and a max. counting rate 100 kHz (less than 1% dead time).
The replacement detector MILAND is larger (320 x 320 mm²) and offers both a better resoltion (1 x 1 mm²) and a much higher counting rate (0.7 MHz, 10% dead time).
The examples shown here are for the two kind of detectors.
