Biosketch of Anton Heidemann

I was born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1940. I received my Diplom in Physics from the Technical University in Munich in 1966. My thesis was made at the research reactor FRM in Munich under the leadership of Professor H. Maier-Leibnitz in 1969. After 5 years as research assistant at the same institut I joined the ILL in Grenoble, France, in 1974. There I was responsible for the development and operation of two backscattering spectrometers, IN10 and IN13. After a sabbatical year in Brookhaven, I was appointed Head of the Instrument Operation Departement at the ILL. Later I was nominated Head of the Instrumentation Branch at the ILL. My scientific interests include applications of high resolution neutron spectroscopy like the study of hyperfine interactions in solids or rotational tunnelling of small molecules or molecular groups in solids. I retired in 2002. My hobbies are Astronomy and Geology.

Biosketch of Bernhard Frick

Born 1953 in Sigmaringen, Germany. From 1974 to 1980 study of Physics at the Eberhard-Karls Universität Tübingen (Germany); there 1980 Diplomarbeit on "Preparation of amorphous metals and magnetic order in FeCr-garnets" with Prof. W. Prandl at the Inst. für Kristallographie and 1981 Diplom Degree in Physics . 1981 to 1984 PhD thesis at the Inst. for Solid State Research, Research Centre Jülich and Universität zu Köln in Physics (Supervisors: Prof. M. Loewenhaupt (KFA), Prof. D.Wohleben (Univ. Cologne)) with the title: "Influence of conduction electrons onto the crystal field states of rare earth metals - a study by inelastic neutron scattering." PhDegree, Dr. rer. nat., in 1984 from the University Cologne. 1984-1986 post-doc at IFF/KFA Jülich, mounting of a stretching apparatus for real-time SANS on dynamically stretched rubbers.

I joint the ILL in 1986, first as an instrument responsible on the TOF-instrument IN6, then 1988 on the BS-spectrometer IN10. In 1991 I took over the development of the new backscattering spectrometer IN16 from A. Magerl. After a sabbatical in 1993-1994 at the "National Institut for Standards and Technology", Gaithersburg,USA, I brought the new BS-spectrometer IN16 into operation and developed its user community. During all my stay at ILL I was actively involved in the research on the glass transition, the dynamics of soft matter and of disordered systems in general as well as in investigations of the dynamics in confinement. For several years I have served as College Secretary for C6 (Liquids and Amorphous Materials) and C9 (Large Molecules) as well as ILL Specialist for C9. Since 2004 I am project leader for the Millenium Project IN16B.
