The ILL has firmly established itself as a pioneer in neutron science and technology. Neutron beams are used to carry out frontier research in diverse fields.

ILL European collaborations

The European Neutron Source ILL is by its very nature present on the European scene. Be it through coordination and participation in European projects as well as defending ILL’s interests via EIROforum, ESFRI and various other instances. The actions undertaken by ILL at the European level are targeted to reinforce ILL’s leadership position in its core business areas. They thus have to be closely coordinated with the ILL’s policy towards its Associates and Scientific Members.


The European office advises ILL management strategically on EU related matters and helps to develop a coherent strategy taking into account European policy orientations and the evolution of funding instruments. The European Office assists ILL in lobbying at the level of relevant European institutions and maintains a close contact with program committee members and national contact points. The European Office represents ILL in the EIROforum Thematic Working Group on International Affairs.

 


SINE2020

SINE2020 (world-class Science and Innovation with Neutrons in Europe in 2020) aims to prepare Europe for the unique opportunities at the European Spallation Source by 2020, and to develop the innovation potential of neutron large-scale research facilities.

BrightnESS

BrightnESS (Building partnerships and promoting synergies for the highest scientific impact on ESS) aims to ensure that the extensive knowledge and skills of European companies and institutes are deployed in the form of In-Kind Contributions to ESS for its construction and operation; that technology transfer both to, and from, the ESS to European institutions and companies is optimized; and that the maximum technical performance is obtained from the ESS target, moderators and detectors in order to deliver world class science and insights for materials technology and innovation..

RISCAPE

•    RISCAPE : “European Research Infrastructures in the International Landscape” will provide systematic, focused, high quality, comprehensive, consistent and peer-reviewed international landscape analysis report on the position and complementarities of the major European research infrastructures in the international research infrastructure landscape.

FILL2030

•    FILL2030: “The Future of ILL 2030” will adapt the ILL business model to fit the changing landscape of neutron research, in order to secure full operational capacity of ILL to meet the demand from its users, until at least 2030.

NanoMed

•   NanoMed  “Nanoporous and Nanostructured Materials for Medical Applications” is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action to stimulate inter-sectoral and international collaboration within Europe and with an ICPC country (Kazakhstan) in the area of novel nano-porous and nano-structured adsorbents for the treatment of very serious health conditions associated with acute and chronic exposure to external radiation and uptake of heavy metals.
