ILL PhD students

About 45 students are currently preparing their PhD thesis at the ILL. The topics of these PhDs cover every possible type of research with neutrons.

A thesis at the ILL is always organised in cooperation with a university. Students usually spend two to three years at the ILL and the remainder of the time at their home university. If you would like to apply for a thesis at the ILL, take a look at our PhD Programme.

Within the ILL, PhD students are represented on the Science and Colleges Committee (SCC) by two representatives. If you are a student and have any issues you would like to raise with the college secretaries or the Director of the Science Division (Mark Johnson), you should contact the PhD representatives.

In order to ensure fruitful and pleasant working conditions for PhD students within the ILL scientific community, Dr. Hannut Mutka was appointed Head of the ILL Doctoral School on 6 October 2016 (see Director's note 2016/11). The details of this role are described here.
