Coexistence of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic spin correlations in La1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7

The bilayer manganite La1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7 is a compound showing colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) behavior. Antiferromagnetic (AF) spin correlations coexist with the ferromagnetic spin excitations close to the Curie temperature TC ≈ 128 K.

The spectra in the animation are taken from a single crystal sample at temperatures of 50K, 120K and 150K. They show the transition at Tc from ordered spin waves to diffuse magnetic scattering.
