Magnetic response of copper ions

Another example is shown here for the S=1/2 spin ladder system Sr14Cu24O41.

By measuring the SF contribution in the configuration for which the incident polarisation is maintained parallel to the scattering vector, it is possible to determine directly the magnetic response of copper ions as a function of the temperature.

The data recorded on IN22 (figure) show that the purely magnetic response change from a response characteristic of a well defined gap of 33 meV to a response characteristic of a pseudo-gap at 90 meV.
