D16

High-resolution diffractometer with variable vertical focusing

Typical patterns with the classical detector

Until 2009, the neutron detector of D16 was a 3He bidimensionnal detector with an area of 256 x 256 mm2, a resolution (pixel size) of 2 x 2 mm2 and a max. counting rate 100 kHz (less than 1% dead time).
The replacement detector MILAND is larger (320 x 320 mm2) and offers both a better resoltion (1 x 1 mm2) and a much higher counting rate (0.7 MHz, 10% dead time).
The examples shown here are for the two kind of detectors.
