The ILL is dedicated to helping its visiting researchers to make the most of its facilities. Neutron beams and instrument access are provided free of charge for proposers of accepted experiments.

Introduction of controlled access to experimental hallsAccess to the experimental halls ILL7 and ILL22 has been modified in compliance with their status as designated radiation protection areas: as of 31 March 2008, access to these areas will be controlled. Access control to the experimental halls will be separate from access control to Level C of the reactor building. The purpose of this note is to describe the procedures for accessing the experimental halls following these changes.
1. Normal access points There are three normal access points to the experimental halls:
The access control system is the same as for the reactor:
2. Special access points Special access points must be used for bringing equipment (other than small items) in and out of the controlled access area:
The use of the truck entrances and the equipment airlocks is described in procedures; information will be posted on notice boards in the vicinity of these access points.
3. Emergency exits The emergency exits in ILL7, ILL22 and the new ILL7‐ILL22 link building must only be used in case of danger or if an evacuation order is issued. These exits must be kept shut and clear of obstructions at all times. |
