College 5a studies crystallography, in a broad sense, both via single crystal and powder diffraction. Some structural studies may require small angle scattering as well. In contrast to college 5b, dedicated to magnetic structure, college 5a is dedicated to the nuclear, the non-magnetic aspect of structure. The influence of crystallographic structure is omnipresent: the properties of water and ice, the hardness of metals, the strength of magnets, and even the biology of DNA or the effect of antibodies on viruses – all depend on structure. If you want to come to the ILL and give a seminar, please apply to  Silvia Capelli.
He can schedule a seminar at the ILL any time (best on Monday and Wednesday, 11h00 or 14h00). Travel and expenses for your stay may be reimbursed to some extend under certain conditions. Do not hesitate to suggest giving a seminar if you are coming for an experiment in Grenoble (ILL, ESRF, EMBL, CEA, CNRS, ...).
