ENSA's Walter Hälg Prize 2011 was just awarded to Gerry Lander

Having worked at neutron scattering centres all around the world (ANL, BNL, CEA-Grenoble, CNRL, ISIS, LLB, ORNL, Risø ... and the ILL of course), Gerry must be the international community's most itinerant neutron scatterer!

The European Neutron Scattering Association's selection committee cited Gerry's "many ground-breaking scientific achievements mostly in the field of the magnetism of the actinides and his outstanding contributions to the development of neutron sources".

Gerry was a pioneer in the development and exploitation of pulsed neutron sources. He has had a visionary impact on neutron sources and instrumentationworld-wide, not only through his experimental skills, but by his persistent commitment to high-efficiency innovative techniques.

He was also the Founding Editor of Neutron News, the newspaper keeping the neutron scattering community informed on developments throughout the world. Last but not least, he had made a massive contribution to the education of thesis students and post-doctoral fellows, through multiple summer schools and post-graduate seminars. Gerry has acted as mentor to generations of neutron scatterers!

ILL sends its warmest congratulations to Gerry Lander.
