While the ILL's neutron source has remained essentially unchanged during the lifetime of the Institute, the ILL's instruments and their components have been continually developed and improved to increase their effectiveness.

Safety

The chemistry laboratory is a dangerous place.

It is essential that the safety rules be observed. You work in the chemistry laboratory at your own risk. If you are in any doubt, please consult the person responsible for the lab for further information.

These brief guidelines provide basic instructions for the use of the ILL chemistry facilities (many of which are common sense).

They cannot provide detailed information on the chemical hazards and potential risks which will be encountered during your work in the lab, i.e. they do not replace a handbook on laboratory safety.

In lab room 205 you will find a more extensive Code of Practice ("Guidelines for Laboratory Users" by S. Mahling and P. Chenavas) and a folder with security information on the most commonly used chemicals. Please note on the sheets provided any chemicals or equipment you would like to see stored in the lab. If you have any suggestions as to the organization and contents of the laboratory, please transmit them to I. Grillo.
