News

  • Though VIVALDI was already unparalled in data collection speed at the start of operation, it is now even faster. The original blue Fuji image plates have since been replaced by Fuji 'Niimura Special' white image plates which are three times more efficient. The recent renewal of the in-pile trumpet, the replacement of some sections of the neutron guide by supermirror guides, and guide realignment has resulted in about three as much flux at the sample. Overall there has been a nine-fold gain in efficiency since the first neutrons in late 2001!
  • Click here to see a video showing the instrument set up, and each stage of the measurement of a neutron Laue diffraction pattern. Note that some of the sequences have been substantially speeded up to shorten the movie (high resolution video is available here).
