Reflectometer D17

D17 is the first ILL dedicated reflectometer and it has been designed to be as flexible as possible in resolution and modes of operation. The instrument is suitable for the analysis of surface structures in solids and solid/liquid interfaces. Horizontal surface experiments, such as free liquids, will suffer from a severe restriction in Q-range and flux and are thus not recommended for this instrument.

The 'Setup Columns' Window

Clicking this button will open a pop-up window, looking something like the image on the right.

There are two options available from this pop-up.  BE WARNED: Choosing one or both of these options will insert extra columns, and your data table may need to be edited.

Choose your options by clicking on the appropriate buttons, and then click 'OK' to effect the change.

Third angle:  If a third angle is measured during the experiment, this option will create new columns in the data table.

 The new columns appear:

- for entering the run numbers for the direct beam measurements

- for entering the run numbers for the reflected beam measurements

- for forcing the relative factors between the three runs.  More information on the use of factors can be found in the help on the Data Table.

- for forcing the three values of theta.  More information on this option in the help on the Data Table.

Instrument Backgrounds:  If you have measured the background in a separate measurement, choosing this option will insert up to three columns to allow you to enter the appropriate file numbers.

- These are the columns for the background  file numbers for angles 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

To top

Because choosing one or both of these options will change the layout of your data table (which can be very annoying if you've already been entering data), we've put in a warning that pops up once you click 'OK'.
