The Time-of-flight and High-Resolution Group

The Time-of-flight and High-Resolution (TOF-HR) group of the ILL operates three distinct kinds of instruments that measure the atomic, molecular and crystal motions of samples in powder, glass or liquid form.

TOF/HR software list

Here is a non-exhaustive list of useful softwares in the time-of-flight & high resolution netron scattering data treatment field.

  • LAMP
Lamp (large array manipulation program) allows you to visualise ILL data files as well as other types, like for example inx files. It is based on the idl package (interactive data language). Lamp is a multi-purpose program and can be used for data treatment by using macros written in idl, Fortran or C. See the LAMP BOOK and the LAMP- time-of-flight supplement
  • INX
Inx is a data reduction program (written in Fortran) for time-of-flight (IN4, IN5 and IN6) data. It allows data grouping, conversion from time to energy, normalisations, absorption correction, etc. Input file: ILL TOF data file. Output file: ASCII 3 columns files x,y,dy.
  • SQW
Sqw is the equivalent of inx for back-scattering (IN10, IN13 and IN16) data reduction (code in Fortran and C). There exists a version for elastic scans called sqwel written in Fortran. Input file: ILL back-scattering data file. Output file: ASCII 3 columns files x,y,dy.
  • INGRID
Ingrid reads files from inx or sqw which are in angle and energy space and transforms these to momentum-transfer, energy space and constant grid. The output file has the same format as the input file.

  • PROFIT
Profit is a general-purpose fitting program with resolution deconvolution using Lorentzian or Gaussian lineshapes. It works with inx or sqw input files.

  • QUASILINE
Quasiline is a fitting program for quasi-elastic signals with resolution deconvolution using Lorentzian or Gaussian lineshapes. Quasiline predicts the most probable number of components using the Bayesian approach. It works with inx or sqw input files.

  • AGATHE
agathe (application for general analysis of time-of-flight and high-resolution experiments) reads inx or sqw files from time-of-flight or back-scattering data. Agathe is a fitting program for quasi-elastic signals using models for S(Q,w) and deconvoluting the energy resolution. Agathe is written in Fortran.

  • OTHERS
If anybody want to share his knowledge in ToF/HR data treatment, he is kindly invited to send his bugg-free well documented code to J. Ollivier (ILL). The code will be added to the list after checking. Any programmation language is accepted.
