PhD Programme

About 40 students are carrying out their PhD-theses at ILL. Their subjects cover all types of research one can do with neutrons.

Student Seminars

Traditionally, ILL students meet several times a month and present their recent results. The aim of these seminars is to practice giving talks in a relaxed atmosphere. Therefore only students (including stagaires) are invited.

Seminars 2007

  • 15th October, 14:00-15:00, EMBL seminar room, Alex Fernandez, "Selenium adsorption on clay minerals".
  • 19th November, 14:00-15:00, CIBB seminar room, Philipp Schmidt-Wellenburg, "Development of a superthermal ultra-cold neutron source with subsequent extraction" (white board)
  • 18th February, 14:00-15:00, CIBB seminar room, Audrey Schollier, "Protein adsorption on PEG-modified surfaces by neutron reflectometry"

Seminars 2010

  • 19th November, 11:00-11:30, ILL4 seminar room, Mouna Tatou, "The relationship between reinforcement and chain/filler structure in silica-latex model nanocomposites".
  • 19th November, 11:30 -12:00, ILL4 seminar room, Martin Simson, "aSPECT - Measuring the proton spectrum in neutron decay".

Seminars 2011

  • 17th February, 11:00 - 11:30, ILL4 seminar room, Mickael Baker, "Antiferromagnetic wheels probed by Inelastic Neutron Scattering".
  • 17th February, 11:30 - 12:00, ILL4 seminar room, Marcus Trapp, "Neutron Scattering studies of model lipid systems as a function of temperature, hydration and pressure".

You are very welcome to contribute as well. At least 2 talks/day should be fine. Contact the student representatives to tell them about your talk. Pure white board seminars are fine, as are Powerpoint presentations.
