Continuously loaded pressure cells and clamps are available from a pool, including a 100kbar Paris-Edinburgh cell. A second 100kbar cell has been ordered and will be available by the end of this year.
For support during operating cycles, Local Contacts, please call the technicians in charge of the High Pressure Lab.

High-Pressure Clamped CellsThe ILL high pressure cells allow neutron scattering and spectroscopy experiments at pressures up to 30 kbar. Temperatures from 40mK to 320 K, with single crystal, powder or liquid samples can be achieved. Clamped cells are loaded to the desired pressure in a press and then clamped using a locking nut before being transferred into the neutron beam (directly or inside a cryostat). The pressure transmitting medium can be liquids like "fluorinert" , (a fluorocarbon) , deuterated hydrocarbon or alcohol (such as iso-propanol). Material in the beam is sintered alumina or null matrix Ti-Zr alloy. Clamped cells may be mounted in top-loading or bottom-loading "Orange" cryostats. Uniaxial stress can be applied to single crystals. At present, 1 Ton load can be transmitted to the sample at any temperature below room temperature. The pressure may be applied regardless of temperature with a maximum load of 3 Tons. The sample dimensions may be a maximum of 12 mm diameter and 15 mm long. These pressure cells are available on request. Sufficient advance notice to sane(at)ill.fr is required for their reservation and preparation.
