Institut Laue-Langevin

With its international funding and expertise the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) offers scientists and industry the world's leading facility in neutron science and technology. From its Grenoble site in the south-east of France the Institute operates the most intense neutron source on earth.

Perspectives for Neutron Science in Novel & Extreme conditions

Zaragoza (Spain) , 27th-31st May 2012

This advanced workshop will address a wide scientific community with the aim to identify the scientific drivers requiring novel and extreme conditions, and to determine how the neutron scattering techniques could contribute. Scientists not necessarily belonging to the neutron scattering community will be brought together with engineers and instrument specialists. Scientists will present the needs and raise questions to be addressed by the instrument specialists and engineers. From these exchanges, we anticipate that novel and extreme sample environment equipment and instruments will be discussed, and that new scientific areas will later benefit from neutron scattering techniques.

Bombannes 2012

Vacation Centre "Les Bruyères", Carcans-Maubuisson, Gironde, France, 7-14 June 2012

11th European School on "Scattering Methods Applied to Soft Condensed Matter"

The 11th European Bombannes Summer School on “Scattering Methods Applied to Soft Condensed Matter” offers a one-week high-level training for about 35 PhD-students and young researchers.
The scope of the “Bombannes School“ is to introduce on a fundamental level the current methodology of static and dynamic scattering techniques and their application to soft matter systems. It is devoted to a practical « state-of-the-art » approach to scattering methods, using neutrons, as well as X-ray and light sources – today’s key techniques to study structure and dynamics in systems containing colloids, polymers, surfactants and biological macromolecules.

40 years D11 - Status & Perspectives of Small Angle Scattering at ILL

Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France,  October 10-12, 2012

Small Angle Neutron Scattering started at ILL 40 years ago, in 1972, with the commissioning of D11. The method is today well established and became an important standard tool for many different research fields such as soft matter science, biology, solid state physics and materials science. The persistent success, in particular at ILL with the 2 most powerful instruments worldwide, D11 & D22, is illustrated by the continuing high demand for SANS beamtime with a constant overload factor of 3. As a consequence a 3rd SANS instrument, D33, has currently been built and will soon be commissioned.
