Continuously loaded pressure cells and clamps are available from a pool, including a 100kbar Paris-Edinburgh cell. A second 100kbar cell has been ordered and will be available by the end of this year.
For support during operating cycles, Local Contacts, please call the technicians in charge of the High Pressure Lab.

Continuously Loaded High-Pressure CellsIn the cells the pressure can be continuously adjusted from 0 to Pmax while the sample is in the beam. The cell is linked via a flexible high pressure capillary to a gas pressure generator, or a high pressure piston pump, which can be located several meters away. The pressure transmitting medium can be helium gas or liquids like "fluorinert" (a fluorocarbon) , deuterated hydrocarbon or alcohol (such as iso-propanol). When null matrix Ti-Zr alloy is used for the cell body or gaskets, there is very little coherent scattering. The maximum sample dimensions varies with the cells and pressure ranges. These cells fit into a standard "Orange" cryostat. The ILL can supply a complete system including the dedicated pressure generator if required. These pressure cells are available on request. Sufficient advance notice to sane(at)ill.fr is required for their reservation and preparation.
