Before your visit

  • Registration - Complete and submit your registration via the ILL Visitors Club as soon as possible, indicating the exact dates of your arrival and departure. Please register for all experiments you are attending. Please note that experiments start and finish at 8.30 a.m. - a 2-day experiment starting on 02/03/04 will end at 8.30 a.m. on 04/03/04.
  • Modifications of your experiment - Adding a new scientist to the experimental team

All new scientists have to create a Visitors Club account before they can be added to the team

As a proposer you can then proceed in one of two ways:

    • If you have not yet registered for the experiment: you will be able to add a scientist via the Visitors Club (http://club.ill.fr/cv/) by clicking on “Register for experiment” and then clicking on “add a scientist”. You can only do this if the scientist has completed all his personal data in his VC account.
    • If you have already registered for the experiment or if the scientist’s account data is incomplete: please send an e-mail to sco(at)ill.eu asking us to add the scientist to the experimental team giving the user's name and experiment number. We will send them an invitation so they can register.
  • Accommodation - ILL users requiring accommodation are expected to stay in the site Guest House. You will receive confirmation by email and you can also check the status of your booking by logging on to the Visitors Club with your personal ID; consult the registration for each individual experiment.

You may refer to the Accommodation section in the Reimbursement regulations for further details.

  • Make sure that you are insured for illness, hospital treatment and industrial accidents.
  • Organise your journey: If you are arriving by air the most convenient international airport is Lyon-Saint Exupéry (formerly Satolas), which runs a regular coach service to Grenoble station via the Place de la Résistance roundabout near ILL.
  • Local Contact: discuss details of your experiment with your Local Contact: sample-environment, sample containers, set-up etc.
  • Ensure that the address of your local health physics or medical services is completed in your Visitors Club account. The ILL health physics service will need the address of the health physics or medical services of your home laboratory to send the results of the processed film badge after your visit.
  • Safety training

We have introduced a new radioprotection online training session and test. This has replaced the 15-minute video training session that all users were asked to attend before starting their experiment. The course is accessible via the Visitors Club.

If you plan to perform an experiment at the ILL you are obliged to take this test, otherwise you will not be granted access to the experimental zones.

The test remains valid for 6 months. After that period you will be asked to take it again.

  • Site access - You will be asked to provide proof of identity (e.g. passport, ID card) before being allowed to enter the restricted ESRF/ILL/EMBL site.
