Scientific scope:


Precise crystallography has significantly contributed to the success and recent developments in materials science, solid state physics and chemistry. Among the available programs for diffraction data analysis, the FullProf Suite is one of the most widely used packages by the scientific community working in these fields.

The aim of our annual school on the FullProf Suite (FPSchool) is to contribute directly to the training of the upcoming generation of scientists with intensive hands-on schools focused on the analysis of diffraction data using the FullProf Suite.

After three successful schools, we have decided to propose a new school organization. FPSchool-2011 will be split into two sessions:

  • The "Basic" session is intended for FullProf "beginners". It will take place in Grenoble from 24 to 28 January 2011 and will give the essential tools necessary to fruitfully use the FullProf Suite at an average level. The first three days of this session will be devoted to general applications, and on the last day, two specialised topics - magnetic refinements and sequential refinements - will be addressed.
  • The "Advanced" session is exclusively intended for “experienced FullProf users” who wish to acquire more knowledge, and even to participate in the latest developments of the FullProf Suite. The topics to be treated are: microstructural analysis, symmetry modes for describing distorted inorganic structures and molecular solids (rigid bodies, z-matrices, etc). It will take place from 30 January to 3 February close to Grenoble in Allevard, France.

In both cases, theoretical introductory lectures (max. 1 hour/lecture) will be followed by hands-on practical computing sessions. The afternoon will mostly be dedicated to practical sessions. In order to favour intensive scientific exchanges, the number of students is limited to 30 for the basic session and 20 for the advanced one.
